Hispanic Communications Network & La Red Hispana join the national COVID-19 Resiliency Network to bring covid-19 education and resources to Spanish-preferring Hispanics

Washington, D.C. (June 28, 2021) – Hispanic Communications Network (HCN) & La Red Hispana joined Morehouse School of Medicine (MSM)’s National COVID-19 Resiliency Network (NCRN) of partners to inform community-driven response, recovery, and resiliency strategies for addressing the impact of COVID-19 on communities.

In response to the needs of Spanish-preferring US communities, HCN and MSM have launched a series of public service announcements in Arizona, Florida, California & Texas airing on La Red Hispana affiliate radio stations. Live mentions will also be promoted during Bienvenidos a America, HCN’s weekly call-in radio show dedicated to immigration, naturalization and adjusting to life in the US, hosted by the recognized journalist José López Zamorano. The initiative will additionally include various activations through La Red Hispana social media and the laredhispana.org website that will direct traffic to www.Protegetehoy.com.

“Hispanic communities have been one of the hardest hit by COVID-19 in the United States. Culturally driven, timely and fact-based educational information designed for Hispanics are critical to address the lasting impacts of COVID-19 in our communities. We are proud to be part of the MSM and its NCRN initiative, which takes into account access and equity issues for Hispanic populations in need of health literacy appropriate resources in their preferred language,” said Alison Rodden, CEO of HCN.

The launch of the NCRN occurs alongside the release of new Spanish resources accessible through the NCRN website and app provided by other network partners such as UnidosUs, The National Latino Behavioral Health Association and University of Texas at El Paso. These tools provide location-based recommendations on where community members can get a COVID-19 test, fill prescriptions and learn where they can sign up for a COVID-19 vaccine as distribution continues to increase in the coming months.

“Our national network connects individuals, families, community organizations and clinical providers to timely and relevant COVID-19 information and services in their neighborhood,” says Dominic Mack, MD, MBA, Professor of Family Medicine and Co-Director of the National COVID-19 Resiliency Network in the National Center for Primary Care at MSM.

The NCRN launch follows a $40 million award from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Minority Health to coordinate a strategic network focused on delivering COVID-19-related information to communities hardest hit by the pandemic.
